The House voted Thursday, 345-75, on a provision attached to a student aid bill to halt funding for the organization ACORN, which typically supports liberal causes. Democrats supplied all of the “no” votes, but even so, a majority backed the measure forwarded by Republicans. The Senate on Thursday passed a similar measure, 85-11, but it was attached to an Interior Department spending bill.
Rather than deal with the prospect of reconciling two versions of two different bills in the House and Senate, Boehner advocates passage of what he is calling the Defund ACORN Act.
UPDATE
President Obama talked on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos this morning. George seemed to be licking his lips in hopes President Obama would break down and say, “Yes I feel people don’t like what’s happening in the administration because they’re racist.” Unfortunately Georgie didn’t win that feat, again, President Obama said he didn’t think race was the issue. (It’s amusing how the fringe really don’t get it. What they hope for [with the race card] is a “story” and yet all they manage to do with these ridiculous questions and insinuations is further validate that they, in fact, are the only ones who “see color” to the President and the rest of the world.)
Anyway, back to the story that normal people are interested in. In the interview with Steph, Obama said that he didn’t even know Acorn was getting “a whole lot of Federal money.” If this is the case, it is seriously no wonder we are in such bad economic shape.
Here’s the video, see for yourself.
