As news of the White House’s consideration in extending unemployment Insurance hits the Internet, I’m curious who may think this is “good news.” Are they expecting that unemployed workers would be giddy with relief? No! As happens all too often, instead of taking care of the problem, this merely puts a pinky bandage on a wound of the carotid artery. The unemployed, while they will get temporary relief, what they want are what they’ve been promised for months. They want their jobs back.
Did we not know this was coming? Unemployment has been on a steady increase for more than a year
We got the news this week that unemployment, the highest in 25 years is at 9.8%. That’s not true. Anyone who has a few working braincells knows that’s not true. Unemployment has been in the double digits most of the year. Right now, it’s approximated at 17%.
Sure we could “conveniently” leave out certain segments of the unemployed, we could whittle that number down to 9.8% if we really tried but let’s instead just be truthful.
As bleak as the above is, it doesn’t end there. Then we must look at the actual hours people are working. Keeping your head above water isn’t easy when your hours have been cut back so much (so you could keep your job) that you’re barely surviving.
This White House, along with the one before it, thinks the American people are ignorant to what is going on around us. We scratch our head and wonder why in the heck 1 + 1 does not equal two in this administration, yet we don’t have the full equation. How could it add up?
On the unemployment numbers, Joe Biden last week said we’d be, “far worse without the stimulus bill and other actions.” Then went onto say that HIS confidence remained strong that we’d recover. It’s nice that his confidence in his administration remains high. However, isn’t it more important to the Administration that the peoples confidence is boosted? I guess not. It should be.
And why would we be confident in the Obama administration? Everything Barack Obama has done so far has failed. When Joe Biden said he’s confident we’d recover, that kind of scares me. All joking aside, it scares me. I don’t know about you.
It is my opinion that, in happier times, some people just don’t question most “goings on” in “The Big House”. We tend to take the “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and “What you don’t know can’t hurt you” clichés and mesh them both together to come up with one happy dappy rose colored world. I’m positive this is exactly what the administration expected this time as well. But they were wrong.
How Does This 17% Spend Their Time?
After a fruitless daily job search, a high percentage of the 17% are now spending more time in front of their TV’s or on the Internet every day wondering what the heck is going on and they don’t like what they see. They know that 1+1 does not equal two according to White House numbers and they have the time to show us why.
Does the White House think the Unemployed would throw cheers and praise to the “thought” of extending unemployment insurance? They want their jobs. They want to do what they’ve always done – work. They want to feel good about waking up in the morning. They want to contribute to their families needs.
I’d venture to say that most of the unemployed could care less about Health Care Reform or AIG bonuses. In fact, I’d guess that the thought of anything besides “getting Americans back to work” makes them even madder. It would me.
Let’s Try A Twist… One They’ll Never Figure Out
Said Obama: “Rising health care costs are undermining our businesses, exploding our deficits, and costing our nation more jobs with each passing month. So we know that reforming our health insurance system will be a critical step in rebuilding our economy.”
Either the person who writes the Barack Obama speeches should be spanked and then fired or Obama has gone well beyond being out of touch. Is he really saying that the health insurance system is going to help the unemployed? Wow, when did that happen?
Later in the speech he said he’d been hearing from small businesses who want to grow and hire but cannot “because they can barely afford to insure the employees they have.” I’m soooooo sure. My business is to serve small businesses and guess what, not ONE of them have implied this. I’d love to see the laundry list of “Small Business Owners” who have contacted Obama with the above-mentioned.
Small Businesses are suffering right now because:
1. Americans aren’t spending money because they are afraid to let go of it or they just don’t have extra money (because they don’t have JOBS)
2. Small businesses have had to let go of employees because of number 1 above
Without consumers, you have no business. Without employees you can have a business. 1 + 1 equals 2.
The Obama Administration spends so much time thinking up diversions meant to dumb us down, they’ll never get anything done.
1. They don’t want us to think about how much illegal immigration is costing us in health care
2. They don’t want us to think about how much illegal immigration takes jobs away from blue collar American workers
And if you even think about arguing that illegal immigrants take jobs that Americans don’t want, don’t bother. That won’t fly with unemployment being so high. Save your breath.
3. They don’t want us to think about how much of a raise they give themselves
4. They don’t want us to think about how much it costs us each time they take their private planes somewhere (try gotomeeting.com, it’ll cost us much less)
5. They don’t want us to think about American Soldiers dying in Afghanistan (5 8 this week) because we are ill equipped to be over there.
6. They don’t want us to recognize that the government option isn’t really an option at all.
All they had to do in the very beginning was focus on job creation. But they didn’t. And because of that, a Pandora’s Box has opened and it will never go well for them. It reminds me of a Stephen King movie. It was one of those movies that’s fairly good in the beginning but the middle was so awful you couldn’t wait for it to be over. It was called Storm of the Century. All through the movie, the bad guy says “Give me what I want and I will go away.” By the end of the movie you’re screaming at the television. “Just give it to him, I have things to do!”
All he had to do was focus on jobs. Yet, because he is “The One”, he put his own agenda in front of ours. As much as I hate to say it, Bill Clinton took care of himself and the American people. George W. took care of Big Government. Obama is taking care of himself in the name of “humanity.” We know, we know… Enough talk about us Mr. President… let’s talk about what’s important to you.

Great post, thanks. I hated Storm of the Century too. Are you on Twitter?
